VANCOUVER, BC September, 2016 – VPN technologies company Betternet today announced the launch of Betterspot, its new VPN router. The router protects privacy online by enabling users to virtually change their geographical locations and surf the web anonymously from any device.
Browsing the web isn’t always the safest activity – there’s a potential for data to be stolen by hackers, or for activity to be tracked and censored. Betterspot VPN router encrypts users’ ingoing and outgoing internet activity to ensure no one is secretly watching them browse.
Even more, Betterspot enables users to access geo-restricted content and blocked websites, giving the ability to watch movies or listen to music without regional restrictions.
The device is portable and works with any WiFi or Ethernet connection. Betterspot provides VPN functions to various WiFi devices – such as tablets, smartphones or laptops. There’s no need for manual configuration, as all devices connect simultaneously to the Betterspot router.
Additionally, Betterspot provides users with an intuitive app to more easily control the device. With the app, users simply tap to change the geographical location they appear in, or switch from VPN mode to a Tor anonymity network in order to protect data from marketers or identity thieves.
“Today, there’s so many institutions that block or managed access to public information, and that’s simply not right,” said Betternet COO Ramin Behzadi. “At Betternet, we want to realign the internet with its early and initial mission, which was to provide everyone with uninterrupted and unrestricted access to information. The Betterspot VPN router makes this even easier.”
Privacy and censorship concerns certainly continue to persist amongst internet users. In fact according to Global Web Index, almost one quarter of internet users say they have used a VPN. Even more, almost one third of VPN users say they use them to stay anonymous while online.
The Betterspot router brings secure browsing to the next level. All users have to do is connect to the router, and access VPN protection on all their devices.
The Betterspot VPN router is currently available by pre-order on the company’s website. 175 CAD. Betternet has also launched a Kickstarter campaign to fine tune the router’s design and begin mass production, during which early backers may purchase Betterspot and a 1 year subscription for $130 CAD. After the campaign, Betternet will be available for $155 CAD. The Kickstarter campaign has already broken its target of $100,000 CAD.
